James Whitford
Managing Director
MoreJames joined European Geophysical Services in 1996, as a geophysical logging engineer having previously worked on various surface geophysical projects. In 1998 James was appointed as a director and in 2017 took over as Managing Director. James has a passion for Land Rovers and all things outdoors, which is what initially led him to geology; an outdoors job driving Land Rovers off road! As well as his work, James enjoys mountain biking, skiing, and hill walking with his dog Beinn.

Rob Jennins
Senior Geophysical Logging Engineer
MoreRob joined the business in 2003, having previously worked as a logging geologist in the oil industry. Rob has experience of logging deep geothermal and exploration boreholes over 1750m and logging of well bore cuttings on various sites in the North Sea. Rob enjoys walking, photography, sea fishing and playing guitar.

Matt Magill
Senior Geophysical Logging Engineer/Director
MoreMatthew graduated from Liverpool University in 2004 and moved straight into a Geophysical logging engineer role with EGS. Matthew has worked on pioneering engineering projects including Eastgate Geothermal Weardale (working closely with Newcastle University) and the Newcastle Science Central Deep Geothermal Borehole project. Matthew has also worked on many major infrastructure projects, helped bring geophysical services to a broad range of industries and in 2017 was appointed as a director. Outside of work Mathew enjoys quiet pursuits and trying to keep up with his children!

David Hingley
Senior Geophysical Logging Engineer/Operations Manager
MoreAfter graduating from Birmingham University, David spent 2 years in Australia as an Exploration Geologist project managing drilling, sampling and field operations in Northwest Queensland. On his return he worked as a Geotechnical Engineer before joining European Geophysical Services in 2015. In 2019 David was appointed as Operations Manager and supports with the logistical and operational planning of the business. Dave is a keen mountain biker, plays ukulele in the band Strumtroopers and enjoys walks with his dog Percival.

Myles Kynaston
Senior Geophysical Logging Engineer/Director
MoreMyles graduated from Cardiff University in 2008 and moved straight into a Geophysical logging engineer role with EGS. During his years at EGS, Myles has gained experience on a wide range of projects across multiple industry sectors. He was appointed a director in 2017. Outside of work, Myles enjoys hang gliding, triathlons, and has a busy home life with four young children to chase after!

John Cheslett
Workshop Manager
MoreJohn joined European Geophysical Services in 2014 to set up and manage the maintenance department. Previously he had spent 22 years in RAF aircraft maintenance gaining broad experience on maritime reconnaissance, search and rescue, support helicopters and hawk jet trainers for the Red Arrow display team.
Alongside routine maintenance duties, John provides practical solutions to facilitate the logging engineers with data acquisition in a variety of often challenging site environments. Outside of work, John is a keen gardener and cyclist.

Rhys Powell
Senior Geophysical Logging Engineer/Data Processing and reporting
MoreRhys has 20 years’ experience in geology and geophysics following his Applied Geology degree from Oxford Brookes University, comprising of post graduate research and work as a geotechnical engineer. He joined EGS in 2011 as a logging engineer and now focuses on data processing and reporting on major ground investigation projects. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling, cars and photography.

MoreMichael joined European Geophysical Services in 2017, having previously spent 3 years as a geotechnical engineer. Michael enjoys live music, rock climbing and going to the gym.

Kerry Havard
Administration/Marketing
MoreKerry joined European Geophysical Services in 2020 and has extensive sales, marketing, and business development experience. After graduating, Kerry worked as a researcher on TV documentaries before moving into sales and marketing roles. Kerry spent ten months working in Berlin, on technology and web projects, followed by four years in marketing and business development within the education and training sector. Outside of work, Kerry enjoys walking, cycling, canoeing, live music, and photography.

Dr Karl Clark
Geophysical Logging Engineer
MoreKarl joined the business in 2021 having completed a PhD in structural geology as part of the NERC Centre for Doctoral Training in Oil & Gas program. Outside of work, Karl trains in Olympic weightlifting and loves the outdoors, including mountain biking and climbing the mountains of the Lake District.

Charlie Clinton
Geophysical Logging Engineer
MoreCharlie joined European Geophysical Services in 2020; having previously spent 3 years working on offshore survey vessels undertaking geophysical and hydrographic surveys for the oil/gas and renewable industries. Charlie enjoys playing cricket for his local team and fishing on the River Severn.

Pip Horton
Office and Finance Manager
MorePip joined European Geophysical Services in 2017, previously working within office and account management in a similar sector. She is an AAT Professional Accountant, a qualified trainer for EUSR National Water Hygiene and has responsibility for the office and company finance.
Pip is regularly accompanied in the office by her Labrador Nimbus, who she rescued from Dogs Trust in 2018, and together they spend winter weekends working in the countryside with their local shoot.
